iPOD WORTHY

Derek Webb
A real voice of truth with an amazing, distinctive voice and songs that cut right to the heart of what life on this planet is all about.

Warren Barfield
I cannot stop listening - and grooving - to his album "Reach." My only question is, where has the CCM World been hiding this guy?

NewWorldSon
I saw these guys open up for the Newsboys and was instantly hooked on their upbeat mix of soul, pop and rock. You can't help but dance once you hear songs like "Salvation Station" and "Working Man." An awesome, awesome band - especially live!

Jonny Lang
I remember when he was Kid Jonny Lang from Fargo, N.D. and playing Bunkers Bar in Minneapolis at age 14 as a guitar/vocal wunderkind. Now look at him. Awesome blues rock and vocal talent second to none.

Lincoln Brewster
One of the best guitar players - on the Christian music scene or otherwise - these ears have ever been delighted by. His soaring, insanely fast leads are mesmerizing.

The Michael Gungor Band
Kind of a David Crowder style, and instantly likeable pop rock. Love the drums on this album.

Go Fish

Great, great, GREAT vocal harmonies from this trio, and their motto is true - music that kids love which won't drive their parents bonkers!

Los Lonely Boys
I've reviewed more than 250 concerts for the St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper, including Billy Joel, The Eagles, Clapton, etc., and nobody puts on a live show like the Garza brothers. Phenomenal. Every time. Period.

READ IT AND WEEP (OR SOMETHING ELSE)

Timeline by Michael Crichton
I rarely go back and re-read books very often, simply because there are too many sitting on my desk waiting to be read. But this is one I've gone back to more than once - the pacing, the plot, the characters, the action, the time travel twist ... I literally could not put it down!

Desire Of The Everlasting Hills: The World Before And After Jesus by Thomas Cahill
Gives a great historical perspective on what life was like before, during and immediately after the life of Jesus. Having the context of the cultures at the time when Jesus walked on this planet has helped me so much in understanding the books of the Bible and why they were written the way they were.

Peace Like A River by Leif Enger
Another book I had to go back and read again. The story is so good, the characters - especially the kids - so much fun, you can't help but fall in love with this book.

Overthrow by Stephen Kinzer
Where was this in my whitewashed American History classes growing up? Reading books like this one helps me understand why our country has so many enemies, along with understanding the never-changing motives of far too many leaders - greed, power, land - even the ones we vote into office. Also a shocking look into just how much industry and business has influenced our political system for the past 100-plus years.

90 Minutes In Heaven by Don Piper
Even if you just read the 20 or so pages about what his trip to heaven was like, it's worth picking up the book. Fascinating, and it reminds me of this - why do we have such a hard time believing stories like Piper's when the Bible is filled with all kinds of miracles, healings, etc.?

GOING ONLINE

Sports Spectrum - Dave Branon and his crew do a great job covering the intersection of faith and sports (something near and dear to this writer's heart!) in the NCAA and professional sports with athlete profiles, stories, etc. A great online and magazine resource to find out about Christians in the sporting world and the great things they are accomplishing for God's glory.

Ransomed Heart Ministries - John Eldredge (Wild At Heart) weeds out all the baloney and does an amazing job of sharing the Gospel in a way that helps you understand what hte deepest desire of your heart is, and also the battleground we've been born into.
